Ibis Open a success. UCF wins their first event of
the season
This
years Ibis Open was another great event hosted by University of
Miami. 10 teams participated from UM, UCF, USF, and FIU. The
event also remembered Lee Weisbrod by adding his name to the
back of the tournament shirt that all participants received. Lee
was an active freshman in the UM Tennis Club last year and was
tragically killed in a Florida lightning storm over the summer.
Each
team played four matches Saturday to be seeded for pool play
Sunday. Rain postponed matches until the afternoon, but it was
worth the wait. USF and UM squared off in one semi as UCF A
played UCF B on the other side. Both were close matches, but UM
and UCF A were set to meet in the finals. The 'U' put up a good
fight to keep the trophy in Miami, but UCF was determined to win
its first tournament of the year. Congratulations to all and a
special thank you to Jackie and UM tennis club for hosting the
Ibis Open.
